1. Where can people follow you online, and who are your followers?
Hello, my name is Lisa Hankinson and I’m on Instagram as @arizona.wildermiss.
2. How long have you been actively using social media to share content?
I’ve been actively using IG for about 3 ½ years. I began using social media to share my adventures and love for photography.
3. What led you to begin using social media as a platform, and how do your outdoor adventures fit that platform?
My followers are Arizona enthusiasts, photographers, hikers, nature lovers, and outdoor devotees. My passion for hiking and the great outdoors soon became the theme of my photos.
4. What does nature and the outdoors mean to you?
Hiking the great outdoors is where I most want to be. It’s where I do my best thinking and where I gain clarity and peace. It’s where I’m able to restore my focus and recharge and it’s where I feel most alive! It has allowed me to disconnect from societal pressures and to remember and value more important things like relationships and connectedness.
5. How do you think social media and other communications can influence good stewardship of the outdoors?
Social media has brought a lot of attention to many unique locations that people wouldn’t otherwise know about. As more and more people recreate on our public lands, our outdoor spaces are increasingly at risk. So, I believe that posting photographs of alluring places comes with a responsibility. We must also educate our viewers in order to ensure our natural areas are protected, conserved, and sustained. It is important for our outdoor community to enjoy our natural spaces responsibly.
6. What else do you want people to know about you?
I’m an Arizona native but until I started exploring the great outdoors, I had no idea just how beautiful our state is! Hiking opened my eyes to our states diversity and splendor and the more time I spent exploring this gorgeous state, the more passionate I became about protecting it. So, when I was offered this opportunity to be a social media ambassador for the stewardship and responsible use of Arizona’s public lands, I was thrilled to jump on board. I’m so excited for this new adventure as a Sonoran Insider. I’m looking forward to an inspirational year with my fellow ambassadors!
